Submittal

Procore submittals alternative priced per project

Procore is a full construction management platform, and its Submittals tool is one part of it. Submittal does one job: it reads your project specifications, builds the submittal register with every row traced to its paragraph, and runs each package through review until closeout. If your company runs everything on one platform, that platform may fit you better. If your project team wants a correct log this week, with the price on the page and no rollout, read on.

A full platform and a focused submittal tool

The two products answer different questions, and the honest comparison starts there.

Procore positions itself as a construction management platform covering project management, quality and safety, financials and more for general contractors, owners and specialty contractors. It is sold by quote, and its public positioning is pricing based on annual construction volume. A company adopting it usually plans a company wide rollout.

Submittal covers the submittal workflow only: spec reading, the register, packages, review and stamps, reminders, version history and exports, plus closeout binders on Business and Enterprise. It is self-serve, priced per active project, and a project engineer can start a single job without a company decision.

2.1

When Submittal fits better

  • Your team wants the submittal log built from the spec book, with each row linked to the exact paragraph that requires it
  • You want to buy for one project or a handful of projects, with the price visible before you sign up
  • Your subcontractors and the design team should join at no cost, without seats to negotiate
  • You already run scheduling, RFIs and cost in other tools and only need submittals done well
  • You want to start this week, from your browser, with no implementation project
2.2

When the platform fits better

  • Your company wants one system for project management, financials, quality and safety on every job
  • Your teams already work in that platform every day and the submittal log needs to live next to RFIs, drawings and daily logs there
  • Your IT and operations teams prefer a single vendor contract across the whole portfolio

Both choices are reasonable. A useful test is who builds the log and how fast it has to exist. More on reading the spec is on the construction specification software page.

Moving a live log over

You do not have to start from zero. Export your current log to Excel or CSV from whatever system holds it, import it into Submittal, map the columns once and keep your existing numbering. Then upload the spec book: the rows Submittal builds from the sections sit next to the imported ones, so you compare them section by section and add anything the old log never had. Open packages continue as the next revision with their history attached as files.

  • Import the existing log from Excel or CSV
  • Keep the numbering format the project already uses
  • Invite subs and the design team, who join at no cost
  • Export everything back out to Excel, CSV or PDF at any time

The step by step guide to the submittal log shows which columns carry over.
